Anambra Youth lambast sit-tight legislators, insists on zoning, rotation

The National Youth Council Of Nigeria, Anambra East Local Government Area Chapter has sent a strongly worded letter of warning to all political parties in the area to sustain and respect the zoning and rotational policy concerning political offices.
Rising from its general meeting held at the Tourist Garden Hotels, Aguleri on Sept 30, 2018 the group resolved that no one would hold any office for three consecutive tenures.
The youth council, according to the resolution, also noted with concern what it called “the worrisome trend of disparaging the youths by the political class, particularly in Anambra East on the issue of rotational structure within the communities in the said constituency.
The state Constituency comprises about eleven communities of Aguleri, Enugu-Otu, Eziagulu-Otu, Enugwu Aguleri, and Ikem Ifite. Others were Igbariam, Mkpunando, Nando, Nsugbe, Umueri and Umuoba Anam communities.
Incidentally, this is Governor Willie Obiano’s constituency, as he hails from Aguleri community.
Going further down memory lane, the NYCN noted that since the advent of democracy in 1999, zoning had been strongly effective in the constituency which began with Hon. Mike Obiudu from Nsugbe (1999-2003), Hon. Ossy Chinwuba from Aguleri (2003-2007). It later went to Hon. Joe Isiagu (2007-2011) and has been with Hon. Obinna Emeneka from Nando since 2011 till date.
They insisted that NYCN being the umbrella body of all youths in Anambra East saddled with the statutory mandate of coordinating the activities of youths in Anambra East Considered the aforementioned issues and resolved that no candidate or party would be allowed three tenures in the state Assembly representation. The group added that the rotational arrangement shall continued for peace and equity.
They also declared that any party or individual who fails to comply with the policy would be asking for disaster, as “the youths shall deploy all its available resources to mobilize support against the political party that deviates from the aforementioned resolutions.”
