An Ilorin based Islamic, Sheikh Sulyman Umar Babatunde, has condemned the actions of clerics supporting wicked politicians in power with prayers.
According to the Islamic preacher, the Holy Qur’an places serious curses on clerics who pray for those whose style of governance has made life miserable for the citizens they are supposed to cater for.
Worse still, Sheikh Umar said these political office holders particularly governors would either want to come to office, force their successor on people, in collaboration with wicked godfathers.
Waxing polical and partisan himself, the cleric appealed to the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara to adopt consensus arrangement in picking its governorship candidate for the 2019 election.
The cleric said consensus arrangement will put an end to the suffering the people of Kwara State who had suffered a lot in the hands of leaders who had been governors and using money to induce innocent citizens to vote wicked people into office
The Sheikh who said he had been preaching against misrules in Kwara for eighteen years spoke in a sermon he delivered at the commissioning of the secretariat of Kwara Central Senatorial district of APC.
APC, he said, remained the only party that could rescue the state and its people from the shackles of oppression and bad governance of over 18 years.
“To free the state, all APC governorship aspirants must come together and select one of them to fly the flag of the party to victory.
“We should not make the same mistake we made in 2015 when myriad of aspirants marred the fortune of the then Peoples Democratic Party in the state,” the cleric added.
The Sheikh declared that prosterity would not forgive the present 12 aspirants of APC in Kwara if they failed to produce a candidate that will deliver the state from suffering, slavery and oppression.
“I call on all important and influential persons in the society and religious leaders to call all the 12 aspirants to a meeting to adopt a candidate to take us out of the wood,” he said..
Sheikh Babatunde however advised that in a situation that the aspirants were unable to reach consensus among themselves, they should all support whoever emerged at the primary.
“I will beg the 12 aspirants of the APC to solidly support whoever emerges at the primary so that the party can come out victorious at the polls.
The party’s Kwara Central Senatorial chairman, Hon Gidado Alakawa, in his address appealed to all aspirants, who are mainly from the senatorial district to accept the outcome of the primary this Saturday.
According to him, all the aspirants and the entire members of the party in Kwara should support the winner of Saturday’s governorship primaries.
“One of us is better than none of us, it is better for one of the aspirants to be the next governor of the state than to have another party in government; we have suffered enough”.
State Chairman of the party, Hon Bashir Bolarinwa, commended the senatorial chairman and members of his executive for the commissioning of the secretariat.
The Chairman appealed to all the aspirants to play the game according to the rule and accept outcome of the primaries in good faith for APC to be victorious at the polls.
The occasion was attended by two governorship aspirants; Malam Saliu Mustapha and Lukman Mustapha while about six other aspirants sent their representatives.
