A musical video on 16 years old secondary school student, Leah Sharibu, has gone viral on the internet.
The video by Amir Jikan Shata, rendered in Hausa language, but subtitled in English, questions the continued detention of the young lady by Boko Haram insurgents, and what the present administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are doing to facilitate her release.
The video called on Christians to continue to pray for her release.
Last February, Leah was one of 106 students of the Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, abducted by terrorists. A month later, over a hundred of her school mates were released, a handful died, but the terrorists held her back because she would not renounce her Christian faith for Islam.
The United Nations recently released a report in which it alleged that Nigeria’s cash economy was fuelling terrorism through the payment of ransom. It specifically cited the alleged ransom paid for the release of the Dapchi girls, though the Federal government, through its spokesman, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, denied it and asked for proof. Not many take the Minister serious.
In June, a website www.newsplusviews.news did a report titled, Leah Sharibu, Dapchi Five and Ransom Scam, which went generally unnoticed, but it suggested that a ransom was paid and there were beneficiaries from within government.
In addition to Leah, there are 112 Chibok students still held by terrorists after their abduction over four years ago when Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was President.
It was a hot campaign issue when elections held three years ago. President Mohammadu Buhari promised to facilitate their release, and has effected the release of 107.
