The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State is awaiting a police report over two of its Deputy Registrars, linked with certificate racketeering to enable the management take the next line of action.
The duo, according to sources, were arrested and released earlier in the year by a team of policemen who came from Oshogbo, Osun State, following the arrest of members of a cartel behind certificate forgeries in that state.
It was learnt that police investigations revealed that the two senior polytechnic officials were allegedly behind forged certificates of Offa Polytechnic found on the arrested suspects in Oshogbo.
Findings in the institution revealed that there is unease in the school because the two Deputy Registrars are still at their duty desks even when a police case was hanging over them.
Meanwhile, sources said both the Governing Council, and the Management, led by its Rector, Dr. Lateef Olatunji, might be putting arrangement in place to make the Osun Police Command brief the polytechnic in view of the negative image the matter has brought on the institution.
Similarly, a number of senior staff of the polytechnic have been reportedly indicted for fraud and asked by the council to return various sums of money ranging from N490,000.00 to N12 million.
The officers indicted, according to sources, included a female staff who was indicted for misappropriating the sum of N12,308,155.00 which she could not account for.
She was said to have been directed by the Governing Council to effect refund within one year, as well have her rank in the system reduced by two steps.
Another staff number was indicted and asked to refund the sum of N10million which he could not account for. He would also lose two steps from his current rank while another staff is to refund N650,000.00.
He would lose one step of his present position and be transferred from the Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the Polytechnic.
Both the Governing Council and the management, according to sources, were determined to rid the polytechnic of gross misconduct among the staff, particularly corruption in line with the anti corruption stance of the present Federal Government.
