Sokoto federal lawmakers angry over killings

Verbal outrage continued to trail the killing of tens of Sokoto indigenes by alleged bandits, a week after Governor Aminu Tambuwal spanked the security architecture in the country, blaming the failure of leadership for the killings that has engulfed the country.
32 of the killed were buried in Sokoto as the indigenes mourned and the State Government ferried relief materials to affected areas in Gandi in Rabbah Local Government Area.
In a statement by the Governor over killings before the attack on his State, he said: “The worst part of all this is that these deaths are avoidable and the killings preventable. It boils down, at the end of the day, to failure of leadership. Nigeria cannot progress and be part of a 21st Century forward looking world by creating new batches of mourners every other day. This is not the way to go. That is not what Nigerians voted for in 2015. That is not what will build a virile, united, united, politically stable and economically prosperous African Giant.”

Hon. Aminu Shagari on the floor of the House of Representatives moved a motion on the attack of a village in Sokoto State by armed bandits who killed, maimed and injured scores of people.
According to him, the bandits had communicated a threat to the villagers to pay a huge sum of money or risk attack.
He lamented the failure of the Government in its primary role of securing the safety of life and properties of Nigerian citizens.
Another Sokoto federal lawmaker, Abdussamad Dasuki stated that the 8th House has debated 79 Motions of insecurity and still no serious security measure has been put in place to secure scores of innocent lives.
He called for the collective unity of Nigerians against terrorism as the security apparatus seems to have failed the country.
Borno lawmaker, Hon. Tahir Monguno said that it was sad that while the Northeast has begun enjoying relative peace, violence has started rearing its head in hitherto peaceful regions.
He advised the engagement of the youths in tackling armed bandits as it helped those from the Northeast.
Hon. Yakubu Barde stated that history would judge the Legislature harshly if it sits, folds its hands and fails to cry out against the failure of the security agencies.
Hon. Nnenna Ukeje reeled out the statistics of mayhem nationwide pointing out that the indices show that Nigeria is exhibiting the features of a nation at war, and is being invaded by forces who are unknown.
She charged the Speaker to go to the President and let him know that Nigerians can no longer sit and be patient while they are being killed.
Hon. Sunday Adepoju stated that if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was criticized for doing wrong while in power, he as an All Progressives Congress (APC) member could not in good conscience keep quiet when things have clearly gone wrong now that his party is at the helm of affairs.
