From Adedeji Joseph, Ilorin
The race to 2019 in Kwara Sate is now picking up as old members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are believed to have drafted Abdulrahman Abdlrazaq, a one time governorship candidate, to go for the contest again.
Abdulrazaq who once ran the governorship race under Congress of Progressives Change (CPC) and later Senatorial aspirant of the PDP was said to have since 2015 general election been sponsoring empowerment programmes for youths and widows in the state using his personal foundation.
The old PDP members were the founding members in 1998 until late Dr. Olusola Saraki and his followers in the All Peoples Party (APP) joined them in 2003 and took over the entire structure from them.
Also, some youth who share the same belief and confidence in the Ilorin born politician said to own refineries in some West African countries are pushing for him.
One of the youth leaders, who spoke with this reporter said Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, though quiet and shy, remains the candidate majority would root for come 2019 general elections.
According to him, since the leading parties in the state appeared to be thinking of zoning the governorship slot to Ilorin (Kwara Central), the one-time candidate from the zone would definitely be apt to be drafted into the race.
His words; “ Abdulrahaman is a patriot, a philanthropist, a friend of the down trodden masses who has a big pocket to challenge anybody in Kwara State in financial terms.
“He is a quiet person, unassuming but can shy away from publicity at times. He is loaded upstairs. If Nigeria can have only three of his kind in the political terrain, we will be free from those who turn our commonwealth to their family rights alone.
“I can bet it, Alhaji Abdulrazaq can handle the economy of Kwara State far better than those stealing our money with impunity over the years, because he is contented financially already, he is different from those who were hungry before or those who were born into believing that the peoples money belong to them alone.
“He once said the total allocation of Kwara State in one year was not up to one third of the dividends on one of his refineries alone. So, he is the one that can rescue Kwara State now”, Ibrahim concluded.
