The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied that it is secretly trying to befriend an aide of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Reno Omokri..
In a reaction to media reports, the ruling party fingered one of its supporters as the source of the circumstances surrounding Omokri’s allegation.
In a statement, APC said the media
report shows that Mr. Omokri’s allegation is based on interactions he had on twitter with one Philip Obin who manages a twitter handle, “@APCNigeria”.
It added: “Recall that the Party had on several occasions distanced itself from the now notorious twitter handle, “@APCNigeria” following unauthorized tweets and subsequent false reports credited to the Party on the outcome of the Benue South Senatorial rerun election (February 21, 2016) and an “Assessment Poll” on President Muhammadu Buhari Administration (May 31, 2017), among others.
“Despite our rebuttals, Mr. Obin has continued to impersonate the Party through the twitter handle, “@APCNigeria”.
“For the avoidance of doubts, we wish to state that Philip Obin was one of the numerous youth volunteers for our party during the 2015 elections. He administered the Twitter handle at the time. But despite numerous appeals to him by various well meaning party representatives, to hand over the handle, Mr. Obin has refused and in defiance continues to use it to misrepresent the Party.
“In essence, therefore, Obin’s interactions with Omokri are in his personal capacity and do not involve Party in any way.
“Giving this latest incident, the Party is now left with no option than to take other lawful actions to restrain Obin from further embarrassing the Party. The general public is yet again reminded that the Twitter handle @APCNigeria is not a Twitter handle of the All Progressives Congress.”
In a report published online by the Vanguard newpaper, Omokri disclosed that the ruling party used its official twitter handle to reach out to him but that he warned them to cease such act else he would expose them someday.
The Vanguard report reads further: “Pastor Omokri is responding to a tweet by the APC official handle, @APCNigeria wherein the party gave reasons why it does not respond to Pastor Omokri’s tweets.
“According to APC, “Go through the tweets at @renoomokri. That’s the timeline of a pastor – a man of God. Dear Pastor, here is why we don’t reply you, Sir: “Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Speak well of those who curse you” – Luke 6:27-28. Enjoy the rest of your day, Pastor!”
“But responding, the bestselling author said, “No @APCNigeria. That is not why you don’t respond to me. Be honest enough to tell Nigerians the truth. You have been secretly reaching out to me until I warned you not to ever DM me again else I would expose you and today is the day of your exposure.”
“To further prove his point, Pastor Omokri munched and made public a tweeter conversation between him and APC.
“Below is the tweeter conversation:
Go through the tweets at @renoomokri. That’s the timeline of a pastor – a man of God.
Dear Pastor, here is why we don’t reply you, Sir:

Enjoy the rest of your day, Pastor!

For the avoidance of doubt, the @APCNigeria has constantly DM’ed me from their VERIFIED handle until I warned them to stop communicating with me. So this tweet they tweeted only shows the dishonesty of their party and members https://t.co/dX5QlHNmyJpic.twitter.com/UDbn1JrURu

Since tax payers are paying for Buhari’s ‘private trip’ to the UK, we should at least know what we are paying for. If it is holiday the man wants, we have got Obudu, Yankari, Ikogosi, Abraka, Argungu and many more. But if it is something else, then Nigerians deserve to know.
