Disobedience of President’s direct orders: IGP Idris meets Buhari

Must read

Mum was the attitude Tuesday as the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, left a 30-minute closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
A usually friendly Idris was not in the mood to entertain questions from journalists who walked up to him, as a shocking revelation by the President that he did not know his own Police chief disobeyed his direct orders over Benue State sent tongues questioning the assertion.
Presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, confirmed the private meeting between Buhari and Idris but gave no details.
One retired army general was livid on Tuesday that an order by the commander-in-chief could be treated with levity by a Police chief.
He pointed to the United States where the country’s former top diplomat Rex Tillerson, was shown the door.
But many analysts continue to wonder if the President’s were disobeyed, and none of his coterie of aides and security chiefs brought it to his attention, even though it was in the media space.
President Buhari had, in the wake of the herdsmen rampaging carnage that was claiming lives in Benue State, ordered Idris to relocate there; but Governor Samuel Ortom, claimed Idris spent only 24 hours there.
On the social media then, postings showing Idris celebrating his birthday anniversary in his Abuja office were being circulated, though the veracity of the photos remained questionable.
Tuesday, a source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), “The president demanded for a full report on police operations till date after which he will make further decisions.
“”There is a renewed resolve to make sure that the killings and bad security situation in Benue State abates,’’ the source further said.
