From Shitile Mbayansa, Abuja
After a ghastly bike accident that took their son, Yusuf, to the theatre for emergency surgery, the overwhelmed first family is thanking Nigerians for the outpouring of prayers and well-wishes.
Yusuf, President Muhammadu Buhari son, suffered a head injury and multiple fractures, following the crash on the night of Boxing Day at Gwarinpa, a surburb of Abuja.
He was said to be racing with a friend when the accident happened.
There were talks of preparations to fly him out for further treatment, but he is presently being treated at Cedarcrest Hospital, reputed for top of the line bone treatment.
A terse statement by presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, Wednesday reads: “Yusuf Buhari had a bike accident last night around Gwarimpa in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
“He broke a limb and had an injury to the head as a result. He has undergone surgery at a clinic in Abuja. He is in a stable condition.
“The President and his wife, Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, are thankful to Nigerians for the good wishes and prayers for their son.
May God reward you all.”
