WlSDOM FOR LIVlNG
By Tope Banso, Abuja
“Show respect for all people” (1 Peter 2:17a New Century Version).
There’s no reason for you to disrespect or dishonour anyone no matter how highly placed, influential or wealthy you are.
Job 36:5 says that God is mighty but He doesn’t despise anyone! The reason God will despise anyone is when such a person despises Him. He told Eli the priest who had honoured his corrupt children more than Him that He would honour those who honour Him but dishonour those who ignore Him – those who despise Him shall be lightly esteemed (1Samuel 2:30).
If God does not despise or disrespect anyone because of his gender, race, social or financial status, etc., why should you? What right have you? Jesus warned, “Beware that you don’t look down on any of these little ones. For l tell you their angels are always in the presence of my heavenly Father” (Matthew 18:10 New Living Translation).
Respect everyone who comes your way, not just because of their age, wealth, dressing or accomplishments.
Honour them first because they are God’s creature. Romans 12:10b says we should take delight in honouring each other. You’re also sowing a seed!
Don’t look down on anyone poor, young, inexperienced, illiterate or living with disabilities. God created them, and you may know their today but you don’t know their tomorrow. The stone that the builders rejected may become the chief corner stone (Matthew 21:42, Mark 12:10, Luke 20:17, Acts 4:11). “Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!” (Romans 12:16 New Living Translation).
This is wisdom for living, and it’s worth sharing.
