Shortly after expressing reservations on the decision of the South-South zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest for the plum chairmanship seat of the party, and warning of consequences for the unity of the party.
Former PDP Deputy Chairman, Uche Secondus, from Rivers State; and owner of the Africa Independet Television (AIT), Chief Raymond Dokpesi, from Delta State are contesting from the South-South geo-political zone
No reason has been given for Chief George’s sudden withdrawal, less than 24 hours to the contest.
With George out of the race, there are still six contenders from the South-West zone of the PDP.
They include former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel; Prof. Tunde Adeniran; former Oyo Governor, Chief Rasheed Ladoja.
Meanwhile, a front-line contender for the position of the National Publicity Secretary (NPS) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Saturday’s elective Convention, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, has insisted that he is psychologically prepared for the assignment ahead.
According to a statement frm his campaign team he was quoted as saying: “I am psychologically prepared for the assignment ahead. I have consulted and campaigned widely among party faithful across the length and breadth of Nigeria. I have received overwhelming support. I am convinced that delegates will make a right choice in me”.
Answering questions from newsmen after consultations with various stake holders and delegates to the PDP Convention, Ologbondiyan said, “I believe my opponents have given up”.
He reiterated that “my experience as a newspaper Editor and image manager to the former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark from 2007 to 2015 will put me in a better stead ahead of my opponents in the management of the party affairs”.
Ologbondiyan stated that what the Party needs at the moment is an experienced technocrat like himself and not a beginner or a neophyte to project and promote the image of the PDP forthwith.
According to Ologbondiyan, “this is the time to tell our story and change the narrative that will once again endear the party to the people of Nigeria. I am aware of the challenges ahead and I am prepared never to fail”.
