The PDP Women’s Forum has expressed sadness over the news of the death of former Vice-President, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme.
In a statement, the women said: “The unfortunate event occurred at The London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday 19th November 2017. A fact that reminds us of how fortunate the PDP and our nation was to have him grace the Awka PDP rally, where his beautiful daughter stood out with OH Obaze as the deputy governorship candidate. We ask God to comfort Dr. Chidi Onyemelukwe, her mother and all those affected. We in the PDP have lost a rare gem. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
In a separate congratulatory message to former President Goodluck Jonathan, the women wrote: “Excellency, your party, the Peoples Democratic Party said of you….”You consolidated Nigerian democracy by ensuring free and fair elections culminating in the historic presidential election of March 2015 in which you graciously conceded defeat and congratulated your opponent even when there were substantial grounds to dispute the outcome.
“Most importantly the rule of law and the human rights of Nigerians was greatly respected. For these and many more you have written your name in gold in the hearts of all Nigerians and you will be remembered as one of the greatest leaders of Africa.
“This is why you are so special to us. Happy 60th anniversary from the PDP Women’s Forum.”
