The Democracy Day celebrations in Adamawa State was marked with political hostility, as the All Progressive congress (APC) loyal to President Mohammadu Buhari, organised a separate rally, while the Governor Mohammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, organised in a conference room in Government House, Yola.
The governor who entertained a crowd including the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and embattled former Chief of Defense Staff AVM Alex Badeh, with a documentary on his achievements in office, assured the people of the state that his government will continue to provide democracy dividends to them.
While the governor was addressing his guests in State’s seat of power, angry protesters took over the streets removing all billboards with his image.
President Buhari’s supporters Democracy Day rally which gathered APC chieftains in the State including two serving senators and former senators and state Assembly lawmakers accused the governor of turning the state into his private estate.
While speaking the state lawmaker representing Gombi constituency, Alhaji Rufai Umar, told the huge crowd that the governor has lost the 2019 ticket of APC due to his total failure to judiciously use the state allocations for the benefit of the people.
” I want to inform you that we the chieftains of APC have commenced shopping for Bindow’s replacement. If we allow this governor to do two terms in office there will be no Adamawa again with the speed the foundation of the state is being destroyed,” he stated.
In their separate remarks Senator Abdullazil Nyako, Senator Ahmad Mo’Allayidi; and former Senate Services Committee chairman, Abubakar Girei, expressed concerned over the lack of focus of the present administration in the state.
Girei noted that if urgent political action is not taken by the party, APC stands to members to other parties.
“We should not forget it was poor management of government affairs that made the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to lose the last general elections and some of our governors are still behaving the same way, so the APC leadership should do more especially on issues of giving the party ticket in 2019,” he said.
The chairman of Buhari Osibanjo Again Ticket campaign group, Alhaji Yahay Hamajulde, who commended the federal government for its laudable achievements, pointed out that the duo have changed the negative narrative about Nigeria before the international community.
