- THE ABACHA DAYS ARE HERE, SAY PDP SENATORS
An alleged plot to implicate Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, in financial and other criminal offences has been made public and a mystery letter detailing the plot read on the floor of the Upper House of the National Assembly by Ekweremadu, even as a Caucus meeting of the Peoples Democratic (PDP) condemned the alleged plot and others meant to silence dissenting voices.
Rising from the Caucus meeting, thr lawmakers issued a statement which read:
“The caucus condemns in its entirety the alleged plan by some persons in the presidency and these persons in the intelligence report that we got, call them a cabal, but we just say some persons in the presidency who have planned to use security agencies to harass intimidate and set up the Deputy Senate President in order to put him in detention and this plan is not limited to the Deputy Senate President only.
“All former governors of the PDP have been listed. All dissenting voices in Nigeria including those in the APC. They are also listed to be attacked in the same manner.
“We see this as a very serious problem for Nigeria and we call on all Nigerians to be aware of this plan.
“The deputy president of the senate has brought the document. So you can look at the document to see the plan to plant either money or guns in (a) house in Enugu or a place they would call his house and then of course procure from a magistrate an order to detain him and from there keep him from circulation.
“We condemn this in its entirety and we say that we will not succumb to this type of intimidation and we are not going to go back to the days of Abacha in this country.
“Also the caucus condemns in its entirety the detention of former Gov. Sule Lamido and the previous detention of former Gov. Babangida.
“We think that this is a plan to make all voices that condemn what is going on today in this country are silenced in this manner.
“This, of course, shows that there is an assault on human rights, freedom of speech, the inalienable right given to every Nigerian under Section 36 of our Constitution.
“We feel this is a worrying trend and we must call attention to it for all Nigerians and the international community at large to say that we cannot have a situation where some people are using the security agencies to wake up one morning, like it happened to Suswan, and somebody takes your car away, drives it to the SSS quarters, plants a gun inside and say you own that gun and they turn around and go court and say they should keep you in detention for investigation and each and everyone of us is now under very serious danger.
“We have also resolved that if you want to go and search my house, please tell me first.
“I have told my people in the village that they should lock my gate and not let anybody enter there and I have told my community anybody who shows up in my house that he coming to search we will search you first before you go in there.
“If we don’t bring a stop to what is happening today, nobody will be safe in this country. I pray we get over this. We have seen this before and we eventually overcome this attempt at making sure that they muzzle dissenting voices, while they are steeped in corruption and corrupt practices like we have seen today when we discussed the matter of the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation.”
Below is the mystery letter read by Ekweremadu on the floor of the Senate:
“To the deputy senate president
I am a trained investigative journalist, working under the (cover) of EFCC covert intelligence spy police.
Distinguished Senator, there is a grand plan from the cabals in the presidency using EFCC as an anti-graft agency to indict and remove you from office, this cabal in the presidency has mandated the EFCC chairman to carry out this evil operation within two weeks.
The plan and the trap goes like this
On the 6th of may Saturday night 2017 stroke Sunday morning, the EFCC along side with local and international media both print and TV, Radio will raid an apartment under the guise of whistle-blowing policy of the federal government with search warrant already obtained in the magistrate court to search an apartment alleging to be one of your guest houses in (the) Enugu State Capital or any suitable available apartment in your senatorial district that will serve this evil purpose.
EFCC claiming to have received a tip off from a whistle;blower in your state alerting the agency of a large huge amount of money of different currencies in the said apartment belonging to you senator Ike Ekweremadu, the deputy senate president of the federal Republic of Nigeria, A proceed which is likely to be illegal obtained and acquired, which constitute abuse of office with corruption.
The things to be discover in said apartment are:
- A huge amount of money with different currency, such as British pound sterling, US dollars, Indian rupee, South Africa rand, and Malaysian Ringgit.
- Documents alleging to be yours, such as 2015 campaign memo and logistic, a ‘list of names chairman local wards of party men and women that benefited from your empowerment program. And other cooked up documents bearing your signature.
- A single photo portrait of yours that will be placed in the city room well
- Ammunitions such as AK 47, two pump action gun with unused gun bullet.
You, distinguished senator, will be invited by the anti-graft agency for questioning and interrogation to shed more light on the said apartment which will lead to your arrest and detention pending the outcome of the investigation.
While you are still in detention, well-sponsored non-governmental organizations {NGOs} will be protesting round the nation (in) Lagos, Enugu, Anambra,FCT Abuja. In fact, sponsored youth in your senatorial district will come to Abuja protesting in the National Assembly gate with petitions submiting one to the Senate President and one to the Clerk of the National Assembly recalling you.
While protest is ongoing, according to their evil plan, the EFCC after detaining you for at least three weeks, you will be charged to court since Section 308 immunity clause does not apply to your office.
The cabal in the presidency their target is this:
- To indict you and to kill your political ambition so that you can no longer stand for any future elections
- And to show to the international community and Nigeria people that you Senator lke Ekweremadu is a corrupt politician.
