 – commends Catholic Church , EYN over assistance
From Musa Solomon Yola
The Director of Disaster Management with Christian Rural and Urban Association of Nigeria (CRUDAN) Mr.Joseph Gyandi, has said that church leaders in Nigeria have woefully failed in their calling to assist those that are in need.
Gyandi who spoke on Saturday at a one day conference for clergymen in the north-east geo-political zone , pointed out that apart from the Catholic Church and Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN) there was no meaningful assistance from other church leaders in the country to victims of insurgency.
“The church leaders are now more concerned with members paying tithes, but the tithes are not been used for humanitarian services. Rven the members… paying the tithes are suffering, our church leaders are flying the gospel with only one wing meaning that they are only preaching spirituality, but what happens to lives is not part of their duties. A true church leader must merge declaration and demonstration. That is preaching spirituality and showing practical love to those that need help,” he stated.
He advised church leaders to avoid using the name of God to exploit members of the public, who are seeking spiritual assistance.
Gyandi who urged church leaders to abide by the words of Christ, pointed out that any church leader that failed to give assistance to the needy is not serving God but serving himself.
He called on the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to collaborate with CRUDAN to enable it to access international funds for humanitarian services in the country.
The director disclosed that between 2015-2017 over 1.8 million euros and fifty thousand pounds was spent providing humanitarian services in the north east zone .
According to him 150 farmers were trained last year for dry season farming , water pumps machines and cash was given to the farmers to purchase grains of their choice.
